Heel Pain Q & A
What causes heel pain?
For such a small area, your heel can have an overriding impact on your life if it’s in pain. There are any number of conditions that can cause heel pain, with plantar fasciitis at the head of the list.
Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which your plantar fascia, a tough band of connective tissue that extends from your heel to the base of your toes, becomes inflamed, usually due to overuse. The hallmark of plantar fasciitis is stabbing pain with your first steps in the morning or after a long period of inactivity.
You can also suffer heel pain because of bone spurs that can develop on your talus, which is the largest bone in your foot. Bone spurs typically develop when there are problems with the connective tissue in your feet, including your plantar fascia.
Other causes of heel pain include stone bruising, arthritis, or a problem with your gait (excessive pronation).
What are the most common causes of foot pain?
Given the enormous burden your feet are under on a daily basis, it’s little wonder that foot pain can crop up. The most common causes of foot pain include:
- Stress fractures
- Arthritis
- Bursitis
- Tendonitis
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Morton’s neuroma
- Broken toes
- Bone spurs
- Ingrown toenails
- Plantar warts
This list gives you an idea of just some of the causes of foot pain that Dr. Tek treats at Dr. Tek Footcare.
